Popeye the Sailor

January 17, 1929 – Popeye the Sailor Man, a cartoon character created by Elzie Segar, first appears in the Thimble Theatre comic strip.

This work is in the public domain because it was published in the United States between 1923 and 1963 and although there may or may not have been a copyright notice, the copyright was not renewed.

This image may however not be in the public domain in countries that figure copyright from the date of death of the artist (post mortem auctoris), in this case Max Fleischer (July 19, 1883 – September 11, 1972) and that most commonly runs for a period of 50 to 70 years from December 31 of that year. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term to US works, If your use will be outside the United States please check your local law.
